Billiards – Answer: Belching
– By Eric LeVine
This puzzle requires one large leap: the colors are in fact a direct mapping to those used on billiards balls. Each color is substituted with a number that is itself a simple ordinal mapping into the alphabet (e.g. 1=A, 2=B, 3=C and so on). And thus this puzzle spells out the word BELCHING! N.B. belching is the holy grail of billiards spellings since there are no duplicated letters and no duplicated color pairs between stripes and solids (e.g. 3 and 11 are both red). |
